Echo signal ghost image prevention system for terrestrial television signals

The ghosting prevention system has the received analogue television signals converted into digital signals before signal processing, with selection of image areas of high variance for echo signal parameter estimation. A corresponding channel pulse response is provided in dependence on the estimated echo signal parameters, at least the echo propagation time and complex echo amplitude being estimated. Pref. the image area used for estimation of the echo signal parameters is selected via edge detection, using a multi-dimensional linear regression method to provide a correlation coefficient for the similarity between the original signal and the estimated echo interference.
