Braking element, esp. brake block for trains

The element is esp. a brake block which has transverse grooves on its frictional surface (1). These are grouped in at least two pairs of single-ended grooves (2,3) and (4,5), extending half-way across the width of the block. Each pair is arranged on the same side of a continuous groove (8). The continuous groove limits the periodic bending of the friction surfaces away from one another, as a result of thermal expansion in heavy braking, and may be arranged in the centre part of the frictional surface. The mouths of a pair of single ended grooves may be located on opposite longitudinal sides (6,7) of the block.
