Locking device for vehicles

The outer circumference of the steering shaft (1) has apertures (14), which are separated by web-like parts (15). The locking element (13) is formed by sprung segments. In locking position, the segments engage positively against the walls of an aperture. The segment is fastened to a sleeve, which encloses the steering shaft. The sleeve is moved against the pressure of a spring in direction of the steering shaft axis. The sleeve is coupled to an electric motor, to move the segments from locking into release position.
