PURPOSE: To provide the subject new aging-preventing substance separated from the above-ground part of a plant of the genus Coleus, easily producible from a readily available raw material, exhibiting excellent aging-preventing action on organisms, having high safety and useful for various uses such as drugs, quasi-drugs and cosmetics. CONSTITUTION: This new aging-preventing substance separated from the above- ground part of a plant of the genus Coleus, exhibiting excellent aging-preventing action on organisms, having high safety and useful for drugs, quasi-drugs, cosmetics, etc., is an odorless and colorless crystal having the following properties. Molecular formula, C24 H30 O7 ; melting point, 76.8-78.1 deg.C (recrystallized from water-acetonitrile); insoluble in water and easily soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, acetonitrile, benzene, toluene, chloroform and dichloromethane; mass analysis (m/z) is 430(max);λmax of the ultraviolet absorption spectrum (ethanol solvent) is 203 and 245nm. The substance can be produced by extracting a fresh above-ground part of Coleus forscolii with dichloromethane, etc.
