PURPOSE: To easily produce a metal carrier for purifying exhaust gas having high rigidity and excellent heat resistance by compressing a honeycomb structure wound by using a core to deform so that a flat plate and a corrugated plate of the honeycomb structure is brought into contact sufficiently and inserting into a casing. CONSTITUTION: At fist, the honeycomb body 5A having a cell 4A in which the exhaust gas flows is prepared by wrapping the flat plate 2A and the corrugated plate 3A on the core 1A drawn out of a center of a metal carrier so as to lap alternately. Then, the core 1A is drawn out of this honeycomb structure 5A to obtain the honeycomb structure 5A having a space at the center, and the body is compressed to deform. This compression is executed so that a shape of a line which is made when the sectional plane is brought into contact becomes the honeycomb structure 5A having the shape containing at least one place in which at least three lins extend radially from one center when observed from a sectional plane orthogonal to a penetrating direction of the cell 4A. Then, the honeycomb structure 5A compressed in such a manner is inserted into the casing. |
