WATER-REPELLENT POWDER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To obtain a water-repellent powder useful as an easily handleable moisture absorbent, antifreezing agent, etc., having controlled deliquescence by coating the surface of deliquescent powder with a silicone-based cured coating film. CONSTITUTION: The objective powder is produced by coating the surface of (A) deliquescent powder (preferably powder of at least one organic carboxylic acid salt selected from ammonium acetate, potassium acetate and sodium acetate) with (B) a silicone-based cured coating film (e.g. a cured coating film made of a silicone resin containing Si-bonded alkoxy or silanol). The objective powder is produced by curing the film-forming agent B after or during the coating of the surface of the component A with the film-forming agent B. The amount of the component B is preferably 0.01-30 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the component A.
