PURPOSE: To reduce the rotating speed of a fuel pump so as to reduce friction and to improve the durability of the fuel pump. CONSTITUTION: A fuel injection device for an internal combustion engine is constituted being provided with a fuel pressure detecting means 3 for detecting the fuel pressure changed every time high pressure fuel is injected from each fuel injection valve to each corresponding cylinder of the engine, a discharge fuel pressure computing means for computing the discharge fuel pressure by a fuel pump 2 on the basis of the fuel pressure detected by the fuel pressure detecting means 3 every time injection to all the cylinders of the engine is completed, and a force-feed quantity control means for controlling the fuel pump 2 so as to force-feed the fuel quantity to be the discharge fuel pressure to a fuel pressure accumulating chamber.
