PURPOSE: To obviate the ground improvement by a method wherein heavy liquid mud in specific gravity at specified value is placed around a structure while underground walls reaching the foundation ground and facing the side walls of the structure and a pool bottom wall facing the floor slab of the structure are provided. CONSTITUTION: Submerged excavation is made inside a rectangular continuous underground wall 1 reaching the foundation ground, and foundation concrete 2 is cast to the excavated surface. A floating structure constructed of a floor slab 3 and side walls 4 is set afloat inside the excavated place, and walls and columns 6 for the undermost subterranean story of a building is constructed inside the floating structure. Then, the floating structure is sunk, with water poured therein, to a position near the ground surface 8, and after side walls 5 and partition walls and columns 7 for the next story are constructed, the floating structure is sunk, with water poured therein, up to a position near the ground surface. By repeating such processes, the floating structure and the subterranean part of the building are completed. While the aboveground stories are constructed, water is discharged and the level of the structure is restored to its original position. Moreover, water inside the underground wall 1 is replaced with heavy sludge in specific gravity of 10±20% of the ground, and the upper stories are constructed while the weight of the building is supported therewith. Thereby, construction can be proceeded without regard to ground characteristics, and base isolation can be achieved by the heavy sludge.
