A brake control system for anti-lock and traction control operation comprises a pipe B which connects the suction side of pump 7 to master cylinder 2, a storage chamber 21/100, a check valve 22, (106, figure 7) which allows fluid flow from the master cylinder 2 to the storage chamber 21/100 when the brake pedal is operated, and a control valve 20 between the storage chamber 21 and the suction side of the pump 7. For anti-lock control, valves 3 and 20 are closed, and pump 7 and valves 4 - 6 are operated for pressure increase, hold and decrease. For traction control valve 3 is closed and valve 20 is open so that the pump draws fluid from the chamber 21/100. The system is stated to improve brake feel when the pedal is operated during traction control. <IMAGE>
