PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic alloy which maintains high sguareness and generates minimum noise by adding a selected separating agent and selected working gas onto a specific kernel generating layer on a substrate. SOLUTION: On a substrate 11 of Al alloy, an NiP plating layer 15 is formed and polished, then the kernel generating layer 16 having a thickness of 5-100nm is formed, and a recording layer 18 of Co-Pt alloy is formed thereupon. On this layer 18, a protective upper layer 20 made of hydrogen-added carbon, ZrO2 , TiC, etc. and having a thickness of <=300sq. is formed and to is, a solid or liquid lubricant layer 22 is formed. The recordign layer 18 contains a low solubility element which is selected out of a group of nitrogen and oxygen, exists principally on the boundaries of magnetic particles, and the magnetic receding medium 10 has an at least 1,500 oersted coersive force, coersive force rectangularity and residual coersive force rectangularity each of 0.8, and a switching field distribution of below 0.2. |
