A multi-layer image film material, suitable for the prepn. of printing plates, comprises the following layers located above each other: (A) a light-sensitive layer in which a solubility difference occurs between the regions illuminated and non-illuminated with actinic light during image illumination, enabling the layer to be developed with organic, aq. alcoholic, aq. alkaline or aq. liq. media, the layer comprising: (A1) 20-98.999 wt.% one or more binder polymers; (A2) 0.001-10 wt.% one or more photopolymerisation initiators; (A3) 1-60 wt.% one or more photopolymerisable organic cpds. contg. olefinic unsatd. gps., which are compatible with (A1); and (A4) 0-40 wt.% one or more auxiliary agents, with the provision that the sum of components (A1)-(A4) is 100 wt.%; (B) a transparent, smooth or rough, non-tacky cover layer which is soluble or swellable in the liq. media, comprising a tear-resistant film-forming polymer and contg. as additives 0.001-20 wt.% one or more salts of formula MnXm (I) (w.r.t. (B)); and (C) a release film which can be removed from layer (B). In (I), M = alkali(ne earth) metal, Al, Mn (II), Cu, Zn, Sn, Ti (III), Cr (III), Fe (II), Fe (III), Co or Ni; X = hydr(ox)ide, halide, sulphate, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, acetyl acetonate or trimethyl sulphonate; and n and m = 1-3 (corresponding to the valency of the counter-ion). The prepn. of plates for surface-, gravure-, flexographic- or relief-printing using the above display material is also claimed.
