The cathode ray tube has a vacuum housing (6) formed by connecting the sides of a front glass part (3) and a rear metal part (50). A cathode region is provided on the side of the metal part. An electron beam control device (2) controls the collision of an electron beam, generated by the cathode region, to the light screen (4). The latter is attached to the inner surface of the front glass part. The sides of the metal part are a predetermined width to extend to the sides of the glass part. The metal part also has a flat base region provided opposite the light screen (4) of the glass part. The flat base region has a recess of a predetermined size and is curved towards the light screen. A corner region is formed along the side and base regions. The corner region has a predetermined radius of curvature (R).
