PURPOSE: To dynamically change a display state corresponding to the kinds of surrounding characters and symbols which change with display editing without changing the contents of text data. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a character and symbol data storage part 5 storing data on plural display dimensions and the changing condition of the display dimensions concerning a prescribed character and symbol, a display dimension deciding part 9 deciding the display dimensions of the character and symbol read from a text storage part 1 in accordance with this data on display dimensions, and a display position calculation part 4 calculating the display positions of the character and symbol based on the determined display dimensions. Then when the character whose display position is presently decided and the characters surrounding the character satisfy the changing condition, the display dimension of the character is changed and the position proper to display the character is calculated by the changed dimension to display the character on a display part 6 so that the character and symbol can be displayed by dynamically changing the display dimension without changing the contents of text data. |
