The device includes a number of meter reading modules (MR), with one allocated to each user. The reading modules are directly linked to the electricity mains and the control mechanisms of the meters. The modules have an interface which allows them to take meter readings and detect malfunction or fraud. At the local substation, a concentrator is in communication with all the meter reading modules using FSK and the low voltage mains as a carrier. The concentrator receives, transmits and stores data and control information and is linked by telephone or radio modem to a remote metering station.
