The mixing of an exothermic dental cement is carried out on a temperature controlled surface (12) that is mounted on a base (6) that has a Peltier element (4) for cooling located beneath it. This is supported on a metal base with formed cooling fins (3). Within the housing base is a mains supply (9) and a cooling fan (10). A temperature sensor is built into the mixing unit base and this provides a signal to a circuit that delivers a pulse width modulated voltage to the Peltier element. This provides cooling to maintain the temperature in the range of 6-8 degrees.
