The ceiling cladding comprises longitudinal and transverse supports (12,13) which are so joined together that the support surfaces (12d,13d) form a common level surface directed towards the room (R). The plates (2) are laid on the support surfaces without intermediate gaps, and are so dimensioned that the buffer joints (S) run centrally along the support surfaces. The edges (21) of the plates are kept flat and connected by an adhesive.
