The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for preparing slurries of high solids content and high viscosity from liquids and pulverized materials. When preparing such slurries, the mixing of dry solids into the slurry turns difficult as the solids content becomes higher. The invention is based on preparing the slurry in at least two steps through first preparing a slurry with a solids content lower than that of the final product and then mixing into this slurry more solids in at least one step until the desired solids content is attained. Mixing is performed in a pin-mill-type apparatus (1a, 1b) incorporating concentric rings equipped with impact stops which are rotated so that a tangential speed difference is attained between the impact stops.
