PURPOSE: To improve resolutions in the direction of a short axis without increasing the size of a transmitting/receiving circuit. CONSTITUTION: A transmitting/receiving circuit prepared for the apparatus to scan a one-dimensional array vibrator is divided and the one-dimensional array vibrator 1 is so arranged to be a two-dimensional array vibrator 1 divided in the direction of a short axis. The transmitting/receiving circuits 2-1 to 2-3 thus divided are allotted to vibrators divided in the short axis of the two-dimensional array vibrator 1 to determine a variable focus/caliber in the direction of the short axis. This allows the determining of the short-axis variable focus/ caliber without increasing the size of the transmitting/receiving circuits. |
