PURPOSE: To provide an electrode using a three-dimensionally foamed metallic substrate, capable of solving the problem about the easy occurrence of an electrode break at a winding process for fabricating a cylindrical battery. CONSTITUTION: An active material made of nickel hydroxide having a mean grain size of 15μm and metallic cobalt powder is kneaded with water and a binder on the basis of a weight ratio of 90 to 10, thereby preparing slurry having density of 5,500cp. This slurry, when applied to a three-dimensionally foamed metallic substrate, does not permeate the substrate up to the center section thereof. Also, when the substrate is compressed after the slurry is dried, no active material exists at the thicknesswise center of the substrate and the layer 1 of compressed foamed metal is formed. As a result, an electrode can be formed to have an active material layer 2 held at both sides of the layer 1. |
