This aluminum alloy comprises 5.5 to 10.5wt.% magnesium, 0.01 to 1.0wt.% copper, 0.01 to 1.0wt.% zinc, 0.01 to 0.3% titanium, 0.01 to 0.3wt.% zirconium, and the balance of aluminum. The aluminum alloy sheet is produced by the processes of common melting and casting of the raw material having the same chemical composition as mentioned above as a starting material, homogenizing heat treatment of ingot or slab at 440 to 600deg.C for 8 to 24 hr., ordinary hot and cold rolling, solution treating and seasoning or natural aging. The process of solution heat treatment consists of rapidly heating at 350 to 550deg.C, holding during the designated hour, and quenching to room temperature. The produced alloy sheet provides a combination of good formability and high strength, and is used for the frame of automobile requiring light weight.
