PURPOSE: To prevent a spike voltage from generating at the time of making the accumulated charges of display elements discharge after completing the display control of one scanned row in the driving device of a matrix type display device. CONSTITUTION: In a device making desired EL elements Snm emit light every one row line by impressing voltages whose polarities are different to row lines LROW and column lines LCOL at the time of driving an EL panel in which plural row lines LROW and plural column lines LCOL are arranged while holding EL light emitting layers there between and making the electric charge accumulated on the element discharge by simultaneously turning a transistor TR13 and transistors TR22 for groundings ON after the voltage impression, driving circuits 26a, 36a controlling gate voltages at the time of turning transistors 22 for groundings ON according to the number of display pixels are provided. In this device, even through discharge time constants are different in lines and the time constants are changed by the number of display pixels, a spike voltage is prevented from generating on either of lines by making voltage changes of respective lines at the time of the discharging coincide.
