A split collar 9 for use in forming a cable joint, comprises two half sections 10, 11 which are joined by a zone 12 of structural weakness such that upon application of pressure the sections may be brought together to form a collar. The sheath 5 is drawn back over the insulate conductors 6 and the collar placed around the conductors, the sheath is returned to its original position and a clip 8 fastened around the sheath to clamp the earth connection E.
