METHOD FOR CODING STEREOSCOPIC MOVING IMAGE

PURPOSE: To improve the compression efficiency by coding a screen while using the screen of other channel later timewise as a reference screen. CONSTITUTION: A prediction coding processing section 2 compresses an animation by the prediction coding technology. The preduction coding processing section 2 outputs coded data when a screen is coded while a reference screen is replaced. A frame memory group 4 stores plural screens. A selection output circuit 6 selects data with highest compression rate among coded data when data are coded while replacing the reference screen. A selection output circuit 6 outputs a data representing the reference screen. When the prediction coding processing section 2 codes a screen of a right eye channel, three screens of left eye channels before and after the right eye channel timewise stored in the frame memory group 4 are used. Then the prediction coding processing section 2 and the selection circuit 6 uses a screen latest timewise among the three screens as a reference screen to make prediction coding.
