PURPOSE: To provide a light emitting device capable of controlling lighting status and non-lighting status with light, and displaying desired color. CONSTITUTION: This device has a light emitting element chip 5, the first photo transistor 2 for turning on light and the second photo transistor 3 for turning off light. Also, the chip 5, and the first and second photo transistors 2 and 3 are formed to have a non-monolithic structure. The transistor 2 is optically connected and electrically in series to the chip 5. The transistor 3 is connected to the transistor 2 in parallel, and has a window w2 for keeping erase light λ3 incidental thereto. According to this construction, lighting status and non- lighting status can be controlled with incident light λ2 and the erase light λ3. Also, the device is non-monolithic type, thereby ensuring the high degree of freedom for selecting the crystalline system of the chip 5. |
