PURPOSE: To practically improve the transmission band of a multi-mode optical fiber. CONSTITUTION: Only the lower-order mode component out of light emitted from one end face of a multi-mode optical fiber 10 is received by a chip 42 of the photoelectric transducer. The optical connector is provided with a plug, to which one end part of the multi-mode optical fiber 10 is fixed, and a receptacle to which the photoelectric transducer is fixed and which can be freely attached to and detached from the plug, and the optical axis at one end part or the optical fiber 10 and the optical axis of the photoelectric transducer approximately coincide with each other in a state where the plug and the receptacle are coupled, and the photoelectric transducer is so arranged that only the lower-order mode component out of light emitted from one end face of the optical fiber 10 is received by the effective light reception face of the photoelectric transducer. An SI type plastic optical fiber 10 which has a large diameter and is easy to handle and is inexpensive can be wired for about 100m in a home for the purpose of receiving the A service like B-ISDN. |
