The method involves providing an interposed-access service control point (24) which passes requests produced at service switching points (12a-12c) which are treated as subscribers to a service packets application. Each request is forwarded to the appropriate service control point for another service provider (AFS). The originating service switching point routes the call on reception of the response from the service control point. If the interrogation violates none of the rates negotiated between the local exchange office and third party, it is sent to the third-party service control point. Otherwise the office treats it as a default.
