PURPOSE: To safely obtain phenylpiperazines in high yield and purity while preventing the environmental pollution with by-product toxic substances from occurring during the production. CONSTITUTION: The phenylpiperazines of formula I [R is a halogen, a lower alkoxy, etc.; (n) is an integer of 0-5] are obtained by reacting a hydrohalide of bis(2-halogenoethyl)amine prepared by halogenating diethanolamine with anilines of formula II [R and (n) are same as those in formula I] at 90-110 deg.C for 2-8hr. Water is preferably used as a solvent and a carbonate or a bicarbonate of Na or K is preferably used as a deacidifying agent in a molar amount of 1.0-1.5 times that of the anilines as a 30% aqueous solution. The hydrohalide of the bis(2-halogenoethyl)amine is not taken out of the reactional system and reacted with the compounds of formula II and a compound of formula III [R is a halogen, etc.; (n) is an integer of 0-5] which is a by-product is further preferably treated at a high temperature. |
