PURPOSE: To provide a bio-implant material with a surface layer on the surface of a metal body comprising titanium as a principal component, such as titanium metal or titanium alloy, the layer having a good bondability to bones and being safe from the peeling from the metal body or destruction of the metal body, and to provide a method for manufacturing the material. CONSTITUTION: A surface layer of metal comprising titanium as a principal component, and titanium silicide the ratio of which is gradually increased toward the surface, is formed on the surface of a metal body comprising titanium as a principal component. Such bio-implant material can be manufactured by an ion implantation of silicon element to a metal body comprising titanium as a principal component, and then by a heat treatment. |
