<p>A turntable is provided for use in recharging batteries (18) of the type used in battery powered forklift trucks (12) and the like. The turntable includes a peripheral array of charging stations (14) each including a support platform (36) and a battery charger (16) for connecting to and recharging of a battery (18) on the platform (36). The turntable is rotatably driven in a stepwise manner to index the charging stations (14) in succession to a transfer position (52). A push-pull ram at the transfer position (52) draws a depleted battery (18) from a forklift truck (12) onto the platform (36) of an empty charging station (14). The turntable is then indexed to move a recharged battery (18) to the transfer position (52), and the push-pull ram installs the recharged battery (18) on the forklift truck (12).</p> |
