PURPOSE: To obtain a dense carbon sinter with few defects such as cracks, blisters and voids in a comparatively short time even when it is a thick-walled product, by firing a molding obtd. by injection-molding a homogeneous mixture of a mesocarbon powder and an org. binder. CONSTITUTION: A homogeneous mixture of a mesocarbon powder and an org. binder is heated and injection-molded to form a molding, which is then fired to obtain a carbon sinter. At least one thermoplastic resin is used as the main component of the org. binder. Usually, 100 pts.wt. mesocarbon powder is blended with about 10-60 pts.wt. org. binder. Before firing, the molding is heated in air or an inert gas at about 250 to 600 deg.C to effect decomposition and removal of the org. binder (degreasing). |
