PRODUCTION OF CLOTH MADE OF COMBINED POLYESTER FILAMENT YARN HAVING FLUFF

PURPOSE: To provide a fluffed yarn handleable similar to ordinary filament yarn in processing such as weaving. CONSTITUTION: An undrawn filament composed of a polyethylene terephthalate and having a birefringence of (5-30)×10<-3> is heat-treated at a low temperature while drawing at a draw ratio corresponding 0.9-0.98 times the spontaneous draw ratio to obtain a thick-and-thin yarn having a hot-water shrinkage of 10-20% and an elongation at break of 45-55%. The thick-and-thin yarn is blended with highly shrinkable yarn resistant to alkali and having a heat shrinkage difference of >=10% from the thick-and-thin yarn. A cloth is woven or knitted with the obtained combined filament yarn and subjected to an alkali treatment to dissolve at least a part of the thick part, randomly cut the filament along the length of the thick-and-thin yarn and form fluffs and a treatment to effect the shrinkage of the highly shrinkable yarn.
