PURPOSE: To provide a character recognition device with good operability which can obtain a handwritten character as a correct character without requiring repetitive handwriting input operation even if the handwritten character is incorrect. CONSTITUTION: If wrong characters are inputted by mistake in handwriting input areas 16a and 16b as shown in figure 10, since normal recognition candidate characters are displayed in a candidate display area 15 at the time of recognition processing for the handwritten input characters, idioms having a last input recognized character as their initial characters are searched for in an idiom dictionary memory, and constituent characters other than the initial characters are also displayed additionally in the candidate display area 15 together with the normal recognition candidate characters, the user notices his or her misinput and can select and determine the correct candidate character without performing any special operation. |
