The apparatus comprises an analog/digital convert unit for converting an encoded broadcast program signal into a digital signal; a timing generating unit for receiving the encoded broadcast program signal and determining timing; a buffer for receiving signals from the analog/digital convert unit and the timing generating unit, and passing only the signal from the analog/digital convert unit by the signal from the timing generating unit; a storing unit for storing information required to decode the encoded program signal; a central processing unit for decoding a corresponding broadcast program signal, if there is a program display request from the user, and outputting a character signal; and a display unit for displaying the broadcast program by inputting the signal of the central processing unit.
