PURPOSE: To generate a plasma arc (PA) without generation of secondary arcs even if there is a restriction on a plasma torch (PT) setting space by coordinating the locations of current feed electrodes or making balance adjustment of the resistance in a feeder circuit, and forming PA with the generated magnetic field approx. on the axis of the PT. CONSTITUTION: A plasma torch (PT) 5 is inserted into a heating chamber 6 at an angle approx. 30deg. When a plasma arc (PA) 7 is generated while the PT 5 is set on the cathode side by a power supply 16. the current from the power supply 16 flows via a circuit 15 for current feed electrodes, current feed electrodes 12, 12', molten steel 2, PA 7, PT 5, and feeder circuit 17 for torch. Because the PT 7 takes the shortest path to the PT 5, it is generated vertically relative to the molten steel surface. However, a current component Ii directed oppositely to the x-direction is generated in the molten steel because the current feed electrodes 12, 12' are located in two positions opposite the x-direction in which the tip of the PT 5 is heading. Therefore, the electrodes 12, 12' are installed at the angleα, and PA 7 is produced on the axis of the PT 5 by an electromagnetic force F.
|
