PURPOSE: To provide a compact hammer drill having high impact force, and capable of reducing the number of parts and decreasing an overall capacity necessary for the arrangement of members. CONSTITUTION: A hammer drill comprises a tool spindle mounted rotatably in a housing, a pivotally moving arm 50 having an impact body 26 for tool spindle hammering, a drive shaft to rotate the tool spindle, and a motion converting means 15 which converts the rotating motion of the drive shaft to the oscillating motion of the pivotally moving arm. An elastic member comprising support members 28' and 28" and leaf springs 23' and 23" which are moved in association with these members is bridged across drive members 100 and 111 engaged with the pivotally moving arm 50 and the motion converting means 15, respectively. In addition, the leaf springs 23' and 23" are curved so that they are apart from the support members 28' and 28" as they move closer from the drive members 100 and 111 to the pivotally moving arm 50.
