The indicator has a signal element (33) which is arranged on a signal support (32) that is movably held in a housing (31) having a through passage opening (35). The signal support is so loaded by a return spring (34) that the signal element stands out proud from the housing. The signal support so projects into the travel path of the rotary latch (15) that in the locked state of the locking mechanism (11) it is moved against the force of the spring until the signal element is retracted into the housing.
