A method of wrapping a substantially parallelepiped product 2, eg cigarette box, comprises providing the product enveloped in a tubular wrapper 5 whereby at least one end of the wrapper extends beyond a corresponding end 7 of the product and forms two pairs of opposed flaps 8 & 9, folding a first pair of opposing flaps 8 towards each-other and flat against end face 7 of the product thus creating two triangular portions 18 on each of the second pair of flaps 9, stabilizing these portions in a position of contact with the second flaps, then folding the second flaps towards each-other and flat onto the first flaps. If the wrapper is formed from heat-sealable material, the stabilizing step may involve securing the triangular portions by spot sealing 23. Alternatively the triangular portions and the second flaps may be pinched together along a crease line 19 and heated. Preferably the first flaps are folded using folding heads (13, Fig 1), the triangular portions stabilized using heat-seal elements (22, Fig 1) or pressure rods (24, Fig 4) in combination with the folding heads (13, Fig 1) and the second flaps folded using fixed helical folding means 20. |
