PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid cylinder bore surface adequate to optimize wear and oil consumption through whole piston movement range and cost-effective to manufacture. SOLUTION: A cylinder bore surface 12 has a coarsely honed surface over at least one of its top portion 14 and bottom portion 16. A mid portion 18 disposed between the top portion 14 and bottom portion 16 has a finely honed surface.
