NEW BISIMIDE COMPOUND AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To provide a new bisimide compound useful as a thermoplastic resin additive having excellent heat-resistance. CONSTITUTION: This bisimide compound is expressed by formula I [R<1> and R<2> are each a 1-28C straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl or alkenyl, a 4-6C cycloalkyl, a group of formula II (R<3> is H or a 1-22C alkyl; R<4> is single bond or a 1-2C alkylene; (a) is 1-2) or a group of formula III (R<5> is a 1-22C alkyl; R<6> is single bond or a 1-2C alkylene; (b) is 0-2], e.g. a bisimide of 3, 3', 4, 4'- diphenylsulfonetetracarboxylic acid and stearylamine. The compound of formula I can be produced by the dehydrative condensation of a diphenylsulfonetetracarboxylic acid of formula IV and/or its acid anhydride with a primary amine of formula R<1> -NH2 or R<2> -NH2 .
