527,706. Stroboscopic apparatus. RECORD ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd., and LAWES, W. H. March 22, 1939, No. 9043. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Means for synchronizing two or more engines, particularly aircraft engines h, i, comprises alternating current generators j, p, one driven by each of the engines, a synchronous motor k driven from one generator j, a rotary member m driven by the motor k and a neon or other lamp e intermittently lit by the current from the other generator p and stroboscopically illuminating the rotary member m. Synchronism is indicated by the disc m appearing stationary when viewed by the light of the lamp e. A speed indicator f may be driven by the motor k. Where several machines are to be brought into synchronism successively, they may each be capable of driving the same generator for the neon lamp. According to the Provisional Specification the invention is applicable to synchronizing other machines such as A.C. generators, one of which is connected to the mains whilst it is desired to switch the other on to the mains when synchronized. For synchronizing aero engines the rotary member m may be mechanically driven by one engine and the other may either drive an A.C. generator with an associated synchronous motor or a make and break device, for the current to the neon lamp. |
