<p>PURPOSE: To improve the slurry nature of generated sulfur and to separate the sulfur efficiently and economically by a method in which an aqueous solution with acid strength of a specified acidity function is used as an iron salt aqueous solution containing trivalent iron ion, and the solution is contacted with gas containing hydrogen sulfide at a temperature of the melting point of the generated sulfur or below. CONSTITUTION: First, in a hydrogen sulfide gas absorber 1, hydrogen sulfide gas (a) is contacted with an iron salt aqueous solution containing trivalent iron ion which is supplied from the anodic cell 7-1 of an electrochemical regeneration apparatus 7 and has acid strength of an acidity function HO in a range of -1.5-0.5. In this way, oxidation reaction advances to generate sulfur, and simultaneously an iron salt aqueous solution containing divalent iron ion is produced, while oxidation treated gas (b) is discharged outside the system. Sulfur particle slurry discharged from the bottom of a sedimentation tank 2 is combined with coagulating sulfur particle slurry discharged from the bottom of the absorber 1 so that sulfur (c) is recovered in a melt-separation tank 6 through a filter press 5.</p> |
