PURPOSE: To provide a sewed object step part recognizing device capable of accurately and stably recognizing the position of a step part independently of the existence of a folded part and colors in parts to be sewed. CONSTITUTION: A picture photographed by a camera 11 is inputted through a picture input device 15 and a step part is recognized by the picture processing of a personal computer 17. Twelve illuminating bases 13 to be independently turned on/off and able to control their light quantity are arranged around the photographing area of the camera 11 as illuminating means. The selection is performed between of 1st recognition algorithm for detecting the edge part of a shadow of a part which is formed by inclined illuminating light by picture processing and recognizing the shape of a step part and 2nd recognition algorithm for recognizing the shape of the step part by detecting a density difference of the part to be sewed, and the ON/OFF of the bases 13 and a light quantity condition, etc., are controlled in accordance with the color characteristic of the parts to be sewed which is inputted from a keyboard or a mouse. |
