The phenol degrading Trichosporon sp. 9-F (KCCM 10017) (I) is isolated from coaltar treatment plant. (I) can degrade 200 ppm of each meta-cresol, para-cresol, meta-chloro-phenol and para-chloro-phenol overnight, and 3600 milligram of phenol per liter. (I) is useful for degrading over 99% in CSTR reactor type wastewater treatment plant containing 620-760 milligram of coaltar.
