Method for purification of groundwater

Process for the purifying ground water comprises the following steps: (1) sepn. of solid components; (2) adsorbing organic cpds. onto an adsorbent resin; (3) desorbing the adsorbed organic cpds. with steam; and (4) regeneration of the resin with an acid. Pref. step (1) is carried out at pH 1-8 (3-7.5). Aromatic hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons are adsorbed onto a divinyl benzene-styrene copolymer resin with a specific surface area of 600-1200 m<2>/g. Step (3) is carried out at 100-150 (110-140) degrees C and step (4) is achieved using a 10-20% aq. soln. of HCl at 20-80 degrees C
