PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new antibacterial and antiseptic agent composed of an extract of Sophora flvescens Aitin which contains sophoraflavanone G as essential component, having a growth suppressing activity against various kinds of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and free from toxicity against a human or an animal. CONSTITUTION: A Sophora flvescens Aitin extract containing sophoraflavanone G as essential component is obtained by extracting Sophora flvescens Aitin with a solvent selected from water, a lower alcohol, a polyol, a lower alkyl ketone, a lower alkyl ether and an alkyl ester of acetic acid. The objective antibacterial and antiseptic agent is composed of preferably >=200ppm of the Sophora flvescens Aitin extract. The extract is preferably obtained by extracting Sophora flvescens Aitin, that is a root of Sophora angustifolia of a perennial weed plant or a plant belonging to the same genus, at normal temperature or under heating. Specifically, the extract is obtained, for instance, by extracting 50g of crushed Sophora flvescens Aitin with 500ml of ethyl acetate at 75 deg.C, and treating the extract by filtration, concentration under reduced pressure and the removal of ethyl acetate, in serial order. |
