The turbine is driven by two-stroke free piston engines (M) with four free piston pumps (P)and two pre-pressure pumps (5) using pressurised water and has a constant high revolution rate under variable load and at high efficiency. For a high turbine output e.g. 14000 PS at 300 r.p.m. and a circumferential speed of 100 m/s, the free jet turbine has two half load flywheels and pairwise arranged jet nozzles for pressure equalisation. The pre-pressure water required at 10 bars for the free piston pump is supplied in a closed circuit by two pre-pressure pumps driven via a reduction gear by the turbine.
