The wind-driven power generator (12) is carried by a balloon-shaped kite (1) which largely consists of flexible material reinforced into a rigid condition by internal pressure provided by a wind-driven air pump (6, 7). The pump may have electrically may have electrically operated valves controlled to maintain the correct pressure under different operating conditions. Means may be provided to heat the compressed air. The kite may be held by high tensile cables in plastic material with metallic outer sheath and internal electrical power conductor. The heating may be provided by a dc dynamo (6).
