PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst having oxidation properties for hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, superior combustibility for particulates in exhaust gas and well balanced various characteristics, which is useful for treatment of the exhaust gas of diesel engines in order to reduce air pollution. SOLUTION: The catalyst comprises a platinum group metal supported on a ceramic support, wherein the support comprises titania, silica, alumina and zirconia. Preferably, it comprises 5-90% of alumina, 4-89% of silica, 4-89% of titania and 2-50% of zirconia, based on the total weight of titania, silica, alumina and zirconia. Preferably, zirconia is present as a fine dispersed form between titania, silica and alumina. The catalyst further comprises a base metal component selected from the group consisting of vanadium, molybdenum, lanthanum, chromium, tungsten, indium and their oxides. |
