The sterilising process is for a machine with a filling tube (40). A valve disc (60) in the filling tube is lowered against the bottom (22) of an external tube (16). At the same time, the filling tube is lifted from the bottom of the external tube to form a through passage (48), forming a flow path through the filling tube. With the filing tube raised and the valve disc lowered, the sterilising fluid travels in a closed flow path. The hose end can remain closed during the sterilisation process. With the valve disc in the raised position, the seal zone between the valve disc and the bottom of the external tube can be sterilised.
