In order to influence the course of deep hole drilling in a metal or non-metallic material, a thrust member (6), whose strength and position are variable, is arranged between the drill rod (2) driving the drill (1) or between the drill (1) itself and the inner wall of the bore so that it causes the drill rod to bend in such a way that the drill adopts a different path. The variation in the position and/or strength of the thrust member (6) can be coupled with the measurement of each position of the drill (1) and controlled by the measuring results.
